It's not terrible. But it's not really good either. It kind of reads a bit like bad fan fiction in spots.

It wasn't fantastic writting but it was entertaining and an interesting first substantial look at the universe. I just wish a sequel was planned because it definitely did not end.

I was surprised that I liked this book as much as I did. The Dawn of the Jedi era has a different feel than the other eras, but it is still distinctly Star Wars.
I enjoyed reading of the way the Je'daii train in their early years. I also really like the fact that they try to achieve balance within the Force, they don't just choose Light or Dark. This makes far more sense to me than having one bad action turn you.
I don't recall reading anything from Tim Lebbon before, but I look forward to more from him in the future. His characters are well written. The action is fast paced and interesting.

Good plot and interesting characters, especially Dalien. I just really didn't like the writing style, though. It felt like the reader was being spoon fed some of the interactions between the characters that should have been more nuanced. Also, how many times did he use the word "arcane"?

I'm getting sick of the phrase 'Lanoree's sword parted his/her head from her shoulders'.....

(First review disappeared after posting) Overall a good read, after looking at lots of negative reviews (not just here) I feel like they are unjustified. This book does a good job exploring the extended universe, has a decent storyline and some interesting characters. Yes it is a little bit unfulfilling in areas but its far from terrible. And for the comment above he uses the word arcane 9 times :) 4 stars for me.
